Populists Come in two sorts: Lower and Upper. The first is tattooed And overweight in Manufactured outrage. They may wear Baseball caps Back-to-front. When not pig-tailed Or skin-headed. They walk with jaunty, Penguin truculence, Faces belligerent With the resentment Of a life that’s Going nowhere. The upper lot is pink, Porcine and drips Disdain for the other sort. They speak in slow Toff-accented drawls. Smooth, happy faces Crease into smiles Of born entitlement. They strut in Tailored suits With waistcoats And may be seen With scarlet braces. What is it, you may ask That these two tribes Can have in common? The answer’s easy: A shared dislike Of the outsider. That is to say, Us!
